WELCOME TO THE ISLE OF VIRGOA!

We are Omy Golden and Brinna Jones, Virgo Moon sisters and lovers of all things astrology...

Now, anyone who has ever discovered a Moon brother or sister can attest that it is a comforting thing indeed to share that most delicate and personal part of us with another who truly UNDERSTANDS. Such is the bond between us Moon sisters- we can speak of our Virgoan-influenced neurosis about dirty dishtowels, messy roommates, and violated privacies with a passion not often expected from the usually quiet Virgin. Nothing can stop the venting once we get going!

So, one chilly October evening in Colorado, during a rare and much-anticipated reunion between us, we came up with the whimsical concept of a place in our souls where the poor, misunderstood Virgo Moon part of us could find a little peace from the pressures of a vast (and horribly unorganized) reality. We called this peaceful existence the Isle of Virgoa. It is the place where our joint inner heart and home resides. It is an island surrounded by a sparkling sapphire blue sea, covered by lush green grass, waving golden wheat and is forever grazed by delightfully pleasant spotted cows. Yes, that's right- Cows!

With that said- Welcome, friends! May we share a little slice of our heaven with you- A heaven bound intimately with and inspired by the subject as close to our two hearts as any- astrology!

Here we will post our thoughts and other topics related to astrological happenings in and around our lives. Feel free to share your opinions or ask questions! Insight is always encouraged, ideas are never shunned- We simply hope to provide a positive, open-minded forum for fellow students of astrology (or just plain students of life) to expand their horizons! Thank you for joining us! Feel free to feed the cows...

Astro Manifesto!

Astrology has been an interest of ours for well over a decade. The more you learn about it, the more you realize there is to learn! This is one of the reasons we have choosen to narrow our focus and concentrate soley on a few aspects of the nulti-faceted astrological world. For instance, while the use of astrology to predict and analyze events in the outside world is admittedly fascinating, we both find it too broad in scope to hold our attention for long. We tend to be absorbed with the charts of individual people, espescially those close to us. Also, while there are many different “types” of astrology out there (Vedic, Siderreal, etc.) these are bred quite naturally out of different cultures interpretations and refinements of these astrological sympbols. Since we are in the West, we study Western astrology, as this makes the most sense for our cultural background. Again, this is not to discount any of the other types of astrology that exist, but we have enough to study when it comes to Western astrology alone, without adding in whole other cultures interpretations! Also, there are indeed many “schools” of astrological thought in existence. There are competing opinions about even the most fundamental aspects of the chart, like which house system to use. While we respect the right of each individual to make up their own mind about these issues, we are firmly of the modern or “psychological” approach to astrology. We do not believe that astrology achieved a “Golden Age” in Medieval Times (when it was “most accurate”) and has since been falling into disrepair and illegitimacy. We do believe that the introduction of Jungian ideas of archetypes and the collective unconscious fit quite nicely in astrology and serve to inform and deepen our study. But also, and most importantly, we believe in the power of free will, and the ability of each individual to determine their own fate. Astrology is an excellent map. It can describe the landscape of your personality, but it cannot tell you where to go. That is very rightfully up to you to decide. (Side note: studying the charts of twins we know is particularly fascinating for this reason! Two people with identical charts, and yet they are distinctly Individuals! Still, you see them working with the same themes—but each in their own unique way!) In the end, our study of astrology can be summed up in a very simple phrase: “As above, so below”. Astrology grew out of human nature's curiousity about the natural world. We studied the plants and the seasons, we watched night follow day, and we soon followed the movement of the stars. We recognized patterns, patterns we can now see in the movement of atomic and sub- atomic particles. And we recognized, and some of still DO recognize, that we are part of this natural environment. The same patterns we can witness happening “out there” are happening “in here” too! We are not, thankfully, separate from the natural world we inhabit, but gloriously and intrinsically part of it! And lastly, something to keep in mind is that astrology is not static. It has evolved over time, and continues to evolve with our interpration of these symbols and characters. Our blog is our attempt to add our voices to the larger story that's unfolding, while being cognizant of where we've been.
